Gayle Groundhog History
For several years, Groundhog Queen was a rumor, one created just to un-nerve new staff members. It was an idle threat - that a "new staff member's name" would be pulled from a hat, and thus become Groundhog Queen for a year. The Queen would have to greet busses in a royal groundhog uniform, and perform certain deeds throughout the year.
Then, in January of 2001, at Mr. Ward's suggestion, Gayle's Groundhog Queen became a reality. Please enjoy our Groundhog Queen Heritage . . .

Groundhog Celebration, 2007
Runner-up Queen Hashagen crowned our newest queen, Queen Trenkelbach on February 1st. This was an exciting promotion for Gayle's newest chorus teacher as she graciously accepted the crown and with excitement greeted Gayle student's as their busses arrived on February 2nd. Much to the dismay of many, though, the Queen did not see her shadow, predicting an early end of winter. This is disappointing to many who are still anxiously awaiting our first big snow storm.

Queen Tirak crowned our newest Groundhog Queen, Ms. Mastroianni in a special crowning event on Wednesday afternoon, February 1st. Escorted in by Prince Flath and Princess Hashagen, Queen Mastroianni proudly and gracefully accepted the crown from Queen Tirak. It was a special crowning as she was accompanied by several of her court members that are close friends and co-workers, including the Duchess Pillar, Duchess Kidd, and Mamma Carter.
While out greeting the students as they arrived to school, Queen Mastroianni saw her shadow, indicating six more weeks of winter.
Welcome, new Groundhog Queen!

The groundhog tradition continued this year with our new administrator, Mr. Wondree, serving as master of ceremonies. Because the present queen, Queen Chung, was out on maternity leave, Prince Flath had the honor of crowning our newest queen, Queen Tirak. Prince Flath himself was also removed as Prince Lively became the newest Groundhog prince. Congratulations to both of our newest royal faculty members.

Mrs. Ciechanowski's crown was passed on in February to the newest queen, Mrs. Stephanie Chung, Duchess of 7th Grade, who, it is believed, will also represent Gayle to the best of her ability during the 2004-2005 school year. Her side-kick is Prince Flath of the Media Center, who will assist the Queen as royal prince as needed.

Mrs. Ciechanowski assumed her role as the 2003-2004 Groundhog Queen in the Fall of 2003 and has served to the best of her ability for the school year to this point. She is an outstanding queen, and has done well in representing the royal groundhog family in the midst of so many panthers.
February 2002

Mrs. Kerestly, Dutchess of Sixth Grade, was crowned as Queen Kerestly on Groundhog's Day, 2002. She served as Gayle's Queen for the school year 2002-2003. Although her crown was given up to the newest Queen, Mrs. Ciechanowski on February, she continued to serve until the end of the 2003 school year. Mrs. C. assumed her throne in the Fall of the 2003 school year.
February 2001

The first Queen was crowned on Groundhog's Day, 2001. It was Ms. Westerkamp, Dutchess of Reading. She served Gayle faithfully for the 2001-2002 school year.
